Lesly Deschler Canossi is a photographer who lives in Brooklyn and can be found working in one of the many museums of the city. Lesly is a graduate of Herron School of Art in Indianapolis and studied French language in Paris. Her photographic studies also include The Santa Fe Photographic Workshops. Wanderlust struck early and at nineteen she lived in Ussel, France with an independent theater company working as an artist in residence. In her twenties she traveled extensively and began photographing the places she visited. These photographs, which were made in an attempt to capture memory, resulted in a body of work entitled Bed. This continuing series documents the profoundly personal history tied to this common and often overlooked object. In 2004 while visiting the southwest coast of Turkey, Lesly explored many archaeological sites of the region. This experience inspired her recent microscopic investigation into the conceptual memory left behind from the dust and dirt of art objects. Most recently she has expanded her work to include photomicrographs and the traditional image.

Closer revisits familiar subjects of Deschler Canossi’s work including dust, water and the bed. This body of work signals the viewer to create a narrative from photographic abstractions made from photomicrographs and traditional means. With Closer we are asked to pause and examine the beauty and mystery left from our daily experience.

The artist has shown in Indianapolis, Paris and New York.

Past group shows include the Indianapolis Installation Festival (in collaboration with Mary Schroeder) and Modern Bosnia.
Recent group shows with Capla Kesting Fine Art include Small Works (in association with the See Williamsburg Art Festival) 2004, Art Storage Space (in collaboration with Dylan Smith) 2004 and Preview - the After Armory Show 2005.
