For Immediate Release:

Capla Kesting Fine Art is pleased to present: Morgan Russell’s upcoming exhibition; Gesture of a Landscape. "Paint what you know while pushing your painting in a direction that you don't know." Written in a recent sketchbook, it alludes to the spirit of experimentation that infuses Morgan Russell's first solo show.

Photographs, movies, and direct observation are the source materials the artist uses as jumping off points for this recent work; all of which share an underlying landscape structure. It is the atmospheric and spatial qualities of landscapes along with its abstract possibilities which mesh so well with the gestural way in which Morgan has opened up his former traditional mode.

This 40 year old painter has been honing his craft since his arrival here in 1991. Initially steeped in realist tradition of the art student’s league, Morgan has since shed its more academic influences for a building interest in abstraction. These two forces have recently collided onto surfaces exploding with movement and subtlety. This show is a result of that collision.

Morgan’s paintings will be on display at the gallery for public viewing from October 7 to the 23. There will be a reception with the artist on, Friday, October 7th from 6:00 – 9:00 pm. We hope you will be able to visit the gallery during the exhibition, and attend the reception to view the artworks.
